Don Olson –
I started researching E-bikes last year and understood the options pretty well by the time I heard about Gunther and his bikes from a friend who owned an E-XR and an E-XC. After riding both of them I decided that the E-XR fit my needs best and bought one. I expected to use it for recreation and fitness and have ended up also using it for errands (after fitting it with Burley panniers) and any other reason I could find to get on it. I LOVE the bike. It has opened up opportunities to explore and breathe fresh air that I never expected. And, unlike my road bike, it is comfortable to ride. I put 500 miles on it in the first 10 weeks I owned it. I can adjust my workout to anything I want by tweaking the throttle and I don’t have to be all “geared up” to be able to ride it. As for the shop, Gunther is the most knowledgeable person I have met in an E-bike shop and has been available to answer my many questions. The E-XR has plenty of power, good brakes, adequate battery-life per charge and bulletproof racks. I have made two upgrades – a shock absorbing seat post and a rear tire foam liner to reduce the risk of punctures. Drawbacks? It weighs a lot more than my carbon road bike. (Duh…). Other drawbacks? I’m still trying to think of one…
